Spam Blocker - Spam filters, also
called spam blockers or anti-spam software, is used to separate your
legitimate e-mail from spam emails. Each spam filters vary in their
ability and the way they detect and remove spam. Every day millions of
spam and dangerous virus emails are sent out around the world. Without
effective spam blockers and virus protection you are leaving your
computer open to attack.
Spam blocker deletes unwanted e-mails before you download to your
computer. Spam filter gives you the ability to set rules about which
email you want to receive in your inbox, reject or delete, put in a
certain folder or quarantine for you to look through at your own
discretion. You should be able to set up blacklists and white lists
and most importantly it should work with the email service that you
use. Take control of your email inbox and bock unwanted spam and
malicious content out. Spam scams are here to stay, so fight back with
a powerful spam filter.
MailWasher - Best Free aggressive
desktop spam filter. MailWasher uses whitelist, blacklist, database
and learning filters to filter e-mail before it reaches a user's
inbox. While it requires some initial training to learn what you
consider to be spam, MailWasher eventually achieves a very high
accuracy rate. Because of its aggressive approach, it also generates
false positives. Most reviewers find Windows-only MailWasher to be
easy to use and like the fact that it works with most e-mail programs.
OnlyMyEmail - Best web-based spam
filtering service. OnlyMyEmail is strongly recommended in several
reviews, but the service has some detractors, too. Since OnlyMyEmail
isn't downloaded to your computer, system performance isn't impacted
and spam never makes it to your computer. You can direct up to two
e-mail accounts to OnlyMyEmail, where your mail is filtered and sent
to your OnlyMyEmail address (which you can then direct to your desktop
e-mail client). Reviews say OnlyMyEmail is amazingly accurate, with an
extremely low occurrence of misidentified legitimate mail. OnlyMyEmail
will work with any operating system.
Cloudmark - Best low-risk
anti-spam software. Reviews like the community-based approach taken by
Cloudmark Desktop, which uses an ever-growing database of known
spammers to filter messages. More than a million program users send
information to Cloudmark, which comes in separate versions for Outlook
(version 5.3) and Outlook Express (3.2.2). Because no spam filter is
perfect, you will still get some false positives.
CA Anti-Spam - Best whitelist
spam filter. CA Anti-Spam allows mail from people you know (your
whitelist) and quarantines everything else. Though the very latest
version is yet to be reviewed, experts say the whitelist filter used
in CA Anti-Spam is highly effective. However, they add that whitelist
filtering works best for people who only receive mail from people they
know, and that it isn't the best choice for those who often receive
legitimate mail from e-mail addresses that aren't in their contacts
folder. The whitelist method of filtering should block all spam, but
when used exclusively, it will also block the highest percentage of
legitimate mail. For that reason, experts either love or hate CA
Anti-Spam.
POPFile - Free spam blocker.
Reviewers say that that POPFile is better than most other free spam
blockers, and at least one rates it ahead of any of the many
commercial programs he's reviewed. However, POPFile can be
intimidating for novices, and it requires a fair amount of training
before it learns what you consider to be spam. POPFile also takes some
knocks for creating system drag. POPFile is an open-source program
that works with all operating systems.
