The spyware issue is larger than most people think. The most irritating part of Spyware infection on your computer is the feeling of helplessness. Your PC slows down, it no longer does what you want it to, it seems to have a mind of its own. A report issued earlier this year indicated that the average PC is infected with multiple pieces of spyware. The report was based on a survey of 5 million Internet users and it says those computers averaged 22 spyware applications each. In all probability, there are 15 to 25 pieces of spyware on your PC, sending information about your PC usage back to the remote locations. Spyware software monitors or controls your PC use. Spyware may redirect your computer to websites, send you pop-up ads, record your keystrokes, or monitor your Internet surfing, which, in turn, could lead to identity theft. You effectively have lost control of your PC. Spyware (also referred to as Adware or Malware) is software that is installed on your computer without your consent. The report says, the higher percentage of the spyware was adware – hidden programs that track the websites you visit on the Internet then pull advertising from the web onto your PC screen. Most adware is not hostile in nature; however, the survey also found more than 400,000 malicious programs running on 5 million computers – and these programs are definitely hostile. You may be unknowingly sending your personal information to a stranger on the other side of the world. A trojan horse is designed to provide access to your PC. More than 33% of all Computer scanned were infected with Trojan horses. These programs let hackers not only track your behavior but even take control of your computer. Some other problems include BHOs that "help" your Internet browser and cookies that track you.
